The Education University of Hong Kong held the “Garden in Heart” Junior High School Students’ Essay Writing Contest Award Ceremony on May 11, 2024. This contest, co-organized by the Department of Literature and Cultural Studies and the Department of Science and Environmental Studies, received 325 eligible submissions from 56 local secondary schools. After several months of submission and review, the winning entries, including the first, second, and third prizes, as well as merit and commendation awards, were finally selected.
The “Garden of the Heart” Junior High School Students’ Essay Writing Contest is one of the core activities funded by “Gardening, creativity, and the Humanities: an Eco-garden-Lab”, a sub-project of the “Intercultural and Interdisciplinary Humanities as an Area of Strength at EdUHK: From Internationalization to Regional Leadership”. “Gardening, creativity, and the Humanities: an Eco-garden-Lab” is headed by Dr Kelly Yin Nga Tse. The Co-Invigilators are Dr Jamie Ying Wang and Dr Chau Man Lut. The writing contest is led by Dr Chau Man Lut, who works with Dr Kelly Yin Nga Tse and Dr Jamie Ying Wang.
The “Garden of the Heart” Junior High School Students’ Essay Writing Contest was judged by three renowned Hong Kong writers: Dr Wong Leung Wo, Ms Wong Yi, and Mr Derek Chung. Centred on the theme “Garden of the Heart”, the contest encouraged Hong Kong secondary school students to unleash their creativity and imagination by writing about their reflections and sentiments towards gardens. This allowed students to transform their everyday observations and imaginations of people, animals, plants, insects, and landscapes in gardens into written words.
香港教育大學於2024年5月11日舉行「園.心」初中生散文創作比賽頒獎禮。是次比賽由文學及文化學系與科學與環境學系合辦,徵集了325份合資格參賽稿件,共計56所本地中學參與,經過數個月的徵稿和評審,最終選出包括冠亞季軍、優異獎及嘉許獎在內的得獎作品。
「園.心」初中生散文創作比賽乃「香港教育大學優勢領域:跨文化與跨學科人文學——從國際化到引領區域前沿發展」計劃的子項目——「園藝,創意與人文:生態園實驗室」支持的創意寫作比賽。項目由謝延雅博士領導,鄒文律博士及王莹博士擔任項目副協調員。是次創意寫作比賽則由鄒文律博士統籌,謝延雅博士及王莹博士提供協助。
比賽獲王良和博士、黃怡女士、鍾國強先生三位香港知名作家擔任評審,以「園.心」為主題,旨在鼓勵香港中學生發揮創意與想像,寫下對觀園之感悟、遊園之情懷,藉此機會把日常對園中之人與動物、植物、昆蟲、景物的觀察及想像,轉化為筆下文字。
